A Midwest-Spring is in the air. You know what that means, don’t you? New life, new growth, allergies, snow, rain, clouds, sunshine… sometimes all in the same day! But we can’t let fickle weather keep us off the dance floor.

Our DJ Kaitlyn Murray is going to chase away the last of winter with her Set.

See you Swinging Kids there.

Improving Your Moves with Elizabeth Quay. Every second Tuesday of the month at 7pm come for a FREE workshop (with paid dance admission) that will focus on taking your dance moves to the next level! Elizabeth is an accomplished swing dance instructor and competitor and she will help you up your dance skills. We want to make Indy’s contra dance community the exciting place people want to dance at! This workshop is for all dance levels. This month’s workshop will focus on all the fun moves you can do with heys!

Relative Harmony is an acoustic trio from Ontario comprised of Rick Avery (vocals, keyboards, guitar and banjo); Judy Greenhill and Jonathan Avery (vocals, violin and percussion). They have performed a variety of British and North American folk music, a sampling of which is listed on the CDs they’ve released. https://relativeharmony.wordpress.com/home/

They have performed all over Ontario (including Ottawa, Owen Sound, Toronto & Hamilton) and in the U.S.; and at a plethora of school, community, camp and wedding dances.

Judy Greenhill grew up in Toronto. Music has been an integral part of her life since she was three years old. By the time she graduated from the University of Guelph in 1973, she had passed Grade 8 piano and was singing with three different choirs. Her musical talents were put to good use in her early career as a primary school teacher, and later on as a strolling musician in a number of restaurants in the Guelph area. A long-time passion for contra-dancing has segued into a second career, and she is a regular caller at dances across the northeastern US and Canada. She plays guitar, piano, Appalachian dulcimer and spoons.

Larks and Ravens Dance. Contras all over the United States have started using Larks and Ravens to represent dance roles. These terms encourage all dancers to dance whichever role they prefer, and also promote dancing both roles. The “Lark” starts and ends the swings on the Left, and the “Raven” starts and ends the swing on the Right. Also, “Larks” and “Ravens” have the same syllables and accents as “Gents” and “Ladies,” so it’s easier for callers who are used to “Gents” and “Ladies” to switch from the old terms to the new terms. Let’s try it out and see how we like it! – Every First Tuesday of the month.

The Big Four comes all the way from Louisville to play for us!

Andrew Taylor: Fiddle
Taylor Shuck: Banjo
RC Hampton: Drums
Andy Brown: Bass
